A first intimate, underarm, arm or leg waxing appointment often comes with the same questions: how long should the hair be, how will it feel and what should you avoid afterwards? A little preparation can make the visit much easier.
Let the hair grow to at least 3 mm
Wax cannot grip hair that is too short. After shaving or depilatory cream, allow roughly two weeks of growth. Everyone grows at a different pace, so you may send a non-identifying close-up photo on LINE if you are unsure.
Pause active skin care 7–10 days beforehand
- Retinoids and exfoliating acids
- Brightening or irritating products
- Scrubs, brushes and other exfoliation
Use simple moisturiser and wear loose, breathable clothing on the appointment day.
Pregnancy and menstruation
Pregnancy appointments are assessed individually. New waxing clients are generally advised to wait until after 12 weeks and until prenatal checks are stable. Intimate waxing during menstruation requires a tampon or menstrual cup.
The first 24 hours
- Avoid pools, the sea, hot springs, public baths, steam rooms and sunbathing.
- Avoid very hot water, strenuous exercise and friction.
- Pause acids, brightening products, fragrance, alcohol and deodorant.
Moisturise daily. Seek medical advice if swelling, pain or pustules continue to worsen.
How often?
Many clients return every 4–6 weeks, but timing depends on your own hair cycle and treatment area.
